Jason Cortez

July 25, 1992 — September 10, 2021

Jason Cortez was a dear friend, beloved son and brother, and loving husband. He is best known for his volcanic laugh, dry wit, and inexhaustible passion for film, photography, music, and all modes of storytelling. His works have been published internationally and his films have won awards from coast-to-coast. He was a stalwart professional but never took himself too seriously. His raw talent — and ability to let others see their own — warm hugs, and open heart will be sorely missed. He lives on as an inspiration to all who know him and to those still discovering his content.

Jason Jose Cortez Nativi was born on July 25, 1992 in Silver Spring, MD to Reyna Nativi de Cortez and Candelario Cortez. He was the oldest of 2. He attended Potomac Senior High School. After graduating from high school, Jason went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Video Studies at George Mason University. Jason was heavily involved in student organizations such as the Hispanic Student Association, Aguilas Mentoring Program, and was an early member of the Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Alpha, a cinematic professional fraternity, where he held leadership positions.

Jason was a bright light in a dim world, full of passion and he cared so much about so many people. He was an avid photographer, guitarist, film buff, screenwriter, director, podcaster, and streamer on Twitch. He was a beautiful and creative soul who was loved by so many family, friends, and colleagues. His passion and energy as an artist, leader and mentor helped inspire many. He started dating Corina in 2014, and got married on November 13, 2020. They adopted a beautiful little pup, named Stella, whom he loved so very much. Him and his wife Corina loved to go out to eat, travel, watch movies, spend time with friends, and watch their favorite shows.

He passed on September 10, 2021 in Los Angeles, California while pursuing his passion of photography. He leaves behind so much laughter, great memories, and serves as an inspiration for all who knew him.
